Hanscom Field
Security

  • Pre-flight, check with your airline for: flight status; any special travel needs; airport arrival time and traveling with pets.

  • Before leaving for the airport, make sure you have your ticket and proper identification (one photo ID or two pieces of identification - one must be issued by a government authority). For electronic ticketing, airlines accept a valid driver's license, passport or a birth certificate with a photo ID.

  • Plan ahead and allocate additional time for potential traffic delays.

  • Remember to let the person meeting you (if applicable) know your airline, flight number and arrival and departure times. Designate a meeting place.

  • Ensure that you have an ID label outside of each piece of luggage. In addition, always place your name, address and phone number inside each piece of luggage in case of loss. ID labels can be obtained at airline ticket counters. You can also attach a piece of yarn or tape to your luggage for easier identification. Check your luggage in advance for rips and tears since airlines will not be responsible for lost items if your bags are in poor condition.

  • You will be limited to one piece of carry-on baggage and one personal item (handbag, laptop computer, briefcase, etc.). Backpacks must be checked. Keep to the essentials; prescriptions, valuables (camera & jewelry) and important documents. Although small amounts (up to 16 oz.) of personal care items (hairspray, deodorant, perfume, shaving cream, etc.) are allowed, it is recommended that you pack these items in your checked luggage.

  • Prohibited carry-on items include: any item with a folding or retractable blade; box cutters and spare blades; carpet knives and spare blades; corkscrews; cutting instruments; ice picks; knives of any length (including catering cutlery); mace/pepper spray; martial arts devices; metal scissors with pointed tips; replica weapons; straight razors; tools; toy transformer robots; and toy weapons.

  • Airline fares are highly competitive so research and compare fares for airlines serving Hanscom Field. Use the web to find the cheapest airfares by plugging in key words or phrases such as "lowest air fares" or "bargain air fares" to your search engine. Be sure to specify Hanscom Field as your choice for arrival and/or departure. You can also stipulate Hanscom Field as your designated airport when reviewing websites for individual airlines, which provide additional ticket opportunities for air travelers. See our Airlines page for more information. A travel agent can also assist you in finding the best fares via Hanscom Field.

  • Be aware that several factors can sometimes help to lower the cost of your ticket. Discount fares are restricted and are usually limited to a certain number of seats per flight and are often non-refundable. Carefully check all details to ensure that they meet your travel needs before making final arrangements.

  • Remember when you compare fares that travel costs consist of more than just the fee for your airline ticket. Factor in the price of ground transportation, parking, restrictions and even delays to determine your total cost of travel. Consider the time of year when you are traveling, as certain periods such as school holiday weeks involve heavier passenger loads, more traffic and tightened parking situations at larger airports like Logan International Airport. The best bargains are the ones - like flying through Hanscom Field - that offer you the easiest, most convenient and dependable experiences overall.

  • Please be advised that extra time may be required at the airport due to heightened FAA security regulations. It is recommended that you arrive at least 1 1/2 hours prior to your scheduled flight, but be sure to check with your travel professional since wait times change frequently. Be prepared to show ID as requested. To pass security checkpoints, you must have a ticket, a travel agency itinerary, and/or a confirmation letter of an airline ticket.

  • For wheelchair assistance, medical conditions or special dietary needs, contact your ticketed airline at least 24-hours in advance.

  • In the case of unaccompanied minors, please check with your airline for travel clearing security check points and boarding requirements.,

  • To get information about flight cancellations and delays, contact your airline for information or consult their websites for any updates.
